Answer the following questions:

1. Why was the king advised to go to magicians?

The wise men suggested that the king should go to magicians because they believed that magicians were capable of looking into the future and predicting the right time for certain actions. They considered the ability to foresee the future as crucial in determining the appropriate timing for important decisions or actions.

2. In answer to the second question, whose advice did the people say would be important to the king?

Different people gave different answers to the second question. Some said that the king should listen to his counselors, others suggested the priests, a few mentioned the doctors, and there were those who believed that the soldiers were the most necessary people for the king to listen to.

3. What suggestions were made in answer to the third question?

In response to the third question, the wise men offered various suggestions. Some said that science was the most important thing for the king to pursue, while others emphasized the importance of fighting or religious worship.

4. Did the wise men win the reward? If not, why not?

No, the wise men did not win the reward. The king was not satisfied with the diverse and conflicting answers provided by the wise men. Their differing opinions and lack of consensus led the king to withhold the reward.

5. How did the king and the hermit help the wounded man?

The king and the hermit worked together to help the wounded man. The king washed and dressed the man's wound, trying to stop the bleeding. The hermit provided assistance and support to the king in caring for the wounded man. Their combined efforts helped save the man's life.

6. (i) Who was the bearded man?

The bearded man was the king's enemy. He held a grudge against the king because the king had put his brother to death and seized his property.

(ii) Why did he ask for the king's forgiveness?

The bearded man asked for the king's forgiveness because he had intended to kill the king as an act of revenge. However, the king's actions in dressing his wounds and saving his life had a profound impact on him. The bearded man realized the king's kindness and expressed remorse for his initial intentions. He sought forgiveness and offered his service and loyalty to the king in return.

7. The king forgave the bearded man. What did he do to show his forgiveness?

To show his forgiveness, the king not only pardoned the bearded man for his past enmity but also promised to serve him as his most faithful servant. Furthermore, the king pledged to send his servants and his own doctor to look after the wounded man and promised to return the man's seized property. These actions demonstrated the king's genuine forgiveness and his willingness to reconcile with his former enemy.

8. What were the hermit's answers to the three questions? Write each answer separately. Which answer do you like most, and why?

The hermit’s answers to the three questions were:

1. The right time to do something is “now” because it is the only time when we can act.

2. The most important person is the person you are with at a particular moment because we don’t know what will happen in the future.

3. The most important thing to do is to do good to the person because we are here on the earth for that purpose alone.
