The Birth of ISRO: India's Space Program
The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) was born out of the Indian National Committee for Space Research (INCOSPAR), established in 1962 under the leadership of Vikram Sarabhai. INCOSPAR was tasked with coordinating space research activities in India.
In 1969, INCOSPAR was reorganized into the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). The early years of ISRO were focused on satellite communication and meteorology. India launched its first satellite, Aryabhatta, in 1975.
ISRO's achievements have grown steadily over the years. It has successfully launched numerous satellites for communication, remote sensing, navigation, and scientific research. ISRO has also developed its own launch vehicles, including the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) and the Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV).
