Project 1 Grade 9

Project / Portfolio 1

Write a diary entry from the perspective of Margie or Tommy, reflecting on their experiences with computerized education and their thoughts upon discovering the old book. You can express your feelings about the differences between their futuristic education system and traditional schooling.

Diary Entry - Margie's Perspective:

Dear Diary,

Today was a whirlwind of emotions. It all started when Tommy found an old book in the attic, a relic from a bygone era. As I pored over its pages, I felt a surge of curiosity about a world so different from ours.

In the year 2157, education is entirely computerized. We don't attend traditional schools but have our own study rooms with a computerized teacher. Though it is efficient, it often feels impersonal.

As I stare at the screen, I long for the warmth of human interaction. I wonder what it would be like to learn in a classroom with other children and a real teacher. The thought fills me with a mix of excitement and nostalgia.

Finding that old book made me realize what we've lost in our journey of progress. While technology has its benefits, it lacks the personal touch of traditional schooling. I miss the laughter of friends, the smell of old books, and the joy of learning from someone who truly understands me.

Yet, our world is different now, and perhaps there's a way to blend technology with human connection. Until then, I'll cherish the memories of a simpler time.

See You Tomorrow!

Margie

Project / Portfolio 2

Compare and contrast the educational system depicted in the story with the education system in your time and with historical educational practices. You can discuss the advantages and disadvantages of computerized learning versus traditional classroom learning.

In the story, Margie and Tommy learn from a computerized system in the future, while in my time, we go to school with human teachers. Both systems have their pros and cons. Computerized learning is convenient and flexible, but it lacks the personal touch of a real teacher. Traditional classroom learning allows for interaction and socialization, but it may be less adaptable to individual needs.

Looking back at history, education has evolved from informal teaching by family members or tutors to formal schooling systems. While modern technology has made learning more accessible, it's important to remember the value of face-to-face interaction and hands-on experiences in education.

Overall, both computerized and traditional learning have their place, and a blend of both could provide a well-rounded education.

Project / Portfolio 3

Write a sequel to the story "The Fun They Had," imagining what happens next in Margie and Tommy's lives after they discover the old book. You can explore themes such as curiosity, nostalgia, and the value of traditional education.

After discovering the old book, Margie and Tommy became curious about traditional schooling. They decided to explore more about it. With the help of their parents, they found an old school building nearby. As they stepped inside, they were amazed by the classrooms, desks, and chalkboards. They even met some elderly people who had studied in the school long ago.

Listening to their stories, Margie and Tommy felt nostalgic and wondered what it would be like to learn in such a place. They realized the value of traditional education and the importance of human interaction in learning. Inspired by their visit, Margie and Tommy decided to create a small classroom in their home where they could study together with their friends and learn from each other. They cherished the old book as a reminder of their journey into the past and their newfound appreciation for traditional schooling.
