Parts of Speech

 1. Noun

  • Definition: Names a person, place, thing, idea, or quality.
  • Examples:
    • Person: Ram, Sita, Amitabh Bachchan
    • Place: India, Delhi, Taj Mahal
    • Thing: book, pen, table, chair
    • Idea: love, happiness, peace, anger
    • Quality: kindness, honesty, bravery

2. Pronoun

  • Definition: Takes the place of a noun to avoid repetition.
  • Examples:
    • I, you, he, she, it, we, they
    • Me, you, him, her, it, us, them
    • My, your, his, her, its, our, their
    • Myself, yourself, himself, herself, itself, ourselves, themselves

3. Verb

  • Definition: Expresses an action, state, or occurrence.
  • Examples:
    • Run, walk, eat, sleep, talk
    • Is, am, are, was, were
    • Have, has, had
    • Give, take, make, break

4. Adjective

  • Definition: Describes a noun or pronoun, telling us its qualities or characteristics.
  • Examples:
    • Red, blue, green, yellow
    • Big, small, tall, short
    • Good, bad, happy, sad
    • Intelligent, kind, honest, brave

5. Adverb

  • Definition: Modifies a verb, adjective, or another adverb, telling us how, when, where, or to what extent.
  • Examples:
    • Quickly, slowly, carefully, loudly
    • Today, tomorrow, yesterday, now
    • Here, there, everywhere, nowhere
    • Very, too, quite, extremely

6. Preposition

  • Definition: Shows the relationship between a noun or pronoun and other words in a sentence.
  • Examples:
    • In, on, under, above, below
    • Of, to, for, from, with
    • At, by, before, after, during
    • Into, onto, out of, into

7. Conjunction

  • Definition: Joins words, phrases, or clauses together.
  • Examples:
    • And, but, or, so, yet
    • Because, since, as, while, although
    • If, then, when, unless, until

8. Interjection

  • Definition: Expresses a sudden feeling or emotion.
  • Examples:
    • Oh! Ah! Wow! Oops! Hey!
    • Good! Great! Wonderful!
    • Help! Fire! Danger!
