An Anecdote from the Life of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj
Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the founder of the Maratha Empire, was a legendary warrior and statesman. One famous anecdote about him highlights his courage and resourcefulness.
During one of his campaigns, Shivaji's army was surrounded by a much larger Mughal force. Knowing that his troops were outnumbered and outgunned, Shivaji devised a clever plan. He ordered his soldiers to build a barricade of carts and wagons around their camp. Then, he set fire to the carts, creating a thick cloud of smoke that obscured the enemy's view.
Taking advantage of the confusion, Shivaji's troops launched a surprise attack on the Mughal forces. The unexpected assault caught the Mughals off guard, and they were quickly defeated. Shivaji's victory was a major turning point in the Maratha struggle for independence.
